Guest Artist Proposals for Visiting Artist Week

Dear Potential Visiting Artist, 

Thank you for considering coming to Friends School of Portland (FSP) to help make our 3 days of Visiting Artists, Wednesday, March 12 through Friday, March 14, an enriching experience for our students. 

Each March, artists are invited to campus for three days to work with small, mixed-age groups of students and a member of our staff as support. Prior to your arrival, students select their preferred artist/art form. Artists spend three mornings working with the same group of 12 - 18 students on an extended project which is then shared for 5 minutes during an all-school assembly after lunch on Friday. Lunch will be provided for you on Friday. Each year we have a theme that unites the work done by all the visiting artists. The theme for 2025 is: Wonder.

We ask each interested artist to submit a proposal outlining their preferred age range, group size, necessary materials, and overview of the project. This information helps us balance different modalities, art forms, and activities offered to our group of students. 

Workshops for 2nd-8th grades will be a total of 8 ½  hours. Sessions will take place from 8:30 am -10:00 am and 10:30 am -12pm on Wednesday and Thursday, and 10:30 am -12 on Friday, followed by a whole school presentation on Friday afternoon from 12:45pm-1:45pm. 

Workshops for Kindergarten and first grades will be a total of 5 ½ hours. Sessions take place from 10:30am-12pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday followed by a presentation on Friday from 12:45-1:45pm.

Workshops for PreK will be twice a week, for a total of 2 ½ hours. Sessions take place from 11:00 to 11:45 on Thursday and Friday followed by a presentation on Friday from 12:45-1:45pm. 

We look forward to welcoming 10 artists this spring. Proposals should be submitted no later than December 6, 2024, to be considered by the Visiting Artists Committee.  We are actively seeking candidates from historically underrepresented groups. Equity and inclusion are fundamental to our mission. Artists can expect to hear from the Visiting Artists Committee by mid-December 2024. All Visiting Artists will be asked to sign a contract and will be compensated for their hours with students at the rate of $50/hour with additional funds for supplies.
