August 12

Dear FSP Families,

The first day of school draws nearer! In the next two weeks, we'll begin seeing small class gatherings at school to get to know one another and familiarize ourselves with new routines. Though there is undoubtedly some hesitancy in the air for us all, I imagine it will be a relief just to get started. It will certainly be a joy to see students and teachers together again on Monday, August 31!

As you know, the State recently designated all counties in Maine "green." The initial three-tiered health advisory system was posted on July 31 and will be updated every two weeks. These recommendations are advisory. Because of the multi-layered mitigation plan we have in place at FSP, we will be able to remain open for in-person learning even if our county and/or district public schools move into the "yellow" tier.

This week or next we should see 4 commercial canopies popping up around campus--18'x20' tents with an open side--for outdoor learning. The shade sail will go back into the green and grassy courtyard. Four new electric car chargers can be found in the original parking lot. Aliza, Allie, and Pete have moved into the new wing. The new solar panels are almost online. Our ventilation systems filter and replace air three times every hour. We feel really lucky that our building gives us lots of elbow room and that our teachers are planning for outdoor study, exploration, and play with gusto. The forest quietly awaits the children.

By the end of next week, we will apprise you of the dropoff and pickup times for your child(ren) and share the health screening form with you that we'll be asking you to fill out each morning.

Thank you for helping your youngster get used to masking. We notice that it's not too hard at first, but it takes time to build up a tolerance for wearing a mask for extended periods. Please make sure your child's mask is marked with their name AND can be hung around the neck when not in use.

I am eager to see you all.

Sincerely,

Jenny Rowe, Head of School
